Continuity: Enhance Connected Textures in Minecraft
Overview
Continuity is a dedicated Minecraft mod designed to enable efficient connected textures. It allows resource packs that use OptiFine’s connected texture format, emissive textures format (for blocks and item models only), or custom block layers format to function without the need for OptiFine itself.
Key Features
- Client-side Functionality: Continuity operates exclusively on the client side, ensuring smooth integration without affecting server performance.
- Built-in Resource Packs: Continuity includes two ready-to-use resource packs:
- Default Connected Textures Pack: Offers connected textures for glass, sandstone, and bookshelves, closely resembling OptiFine’s classic effects.
- Glass Pane Culling Fix Pack: Optimizes how glass panes render when stacked vertically, removing internal faces to create seamless connections.
- Expanded Specifications:
- Implements the Continuity connected textures specification.
- Supports Continuity emissive textures specification.
- Includes Continuity custom block layers specification.
All specifications expand upon the OptiFine variants, providing extra features and options for resource pack creators.
Usage and Mod Integration
- Fabric Compatible: Continuity is developed as a Fabric mod, and its optimal performance relies on this platform.
- Cross-Loader Functionality: Thanks to tools like Connector and Forgified Fabric API, Continuity works on other major mod loaders such as NeoForge and Forge. Compatible releases for these platforms are distributed, featuring additional metadata for proper dependency handling.
- No Official NeoForge Standalone Planned: Due to technical disparities between Fabric and NeoForge APIs, a version of Continuity for NeoForge that does not rely on the Forgified Fabric API is currently not in development.
