Optimized and Enhanced Glowing Shader for Minecraft
Overview
This resource pack offers a refined version of the vanilla glowing shader in Minecraft. By redesigning the glowing entity post shader, the harsh black outlines are removed and the effect no longer overlaps the entity itself. As a result, entities appear cleaner and more visually appealing, while performance is improved, minimizing FPS drops when glowing entities are on screen.
Minecraft Version Compatibility
Compatible with Minecraft 1.9 and newer. For Minecraft versions earlier than 1.14, be sure to restart your game after applying this pack. It’s important to note that the glowing effect was introduced in 1.9, so this pack is only applicable from that version onwards.
On macOS systems below 1.17, the shader may not function as intended due to untested compatibility. Performance and functionality may vary across platforms.
Installation Instructions
Install this pack the same way you would a standard resource pack. Even though it’s categorized under Shaders, it exclusively modifies the post-processing shader and can be found under the Vanilla filter in the Shaders category. Technically, it is a resource pack, but functionally, it serves as a shader pack.
Advantages for Minecraft 1.20.5 and Later
- Beginning with Minecraft 1.20.5+, the game’s own shader optimizations now use similar techniques, so performance gains from this pack may be less noticeable. However, the visual quality remains superior.
- The official shader does not blend outline color with alpha, resulting in black rather than transparent outlines.
- The official implementation does not prevent the outline from overlapping the entity, leading to less appealing visuals.
- After testing on Minecraft 1.21, this pack increased performance from 54 FPS to 60 FPS on compatible clients.
